In the UK we have a couple of organisations called English Heritage and National Trust, they look after and run places like this. Dave and I are members of both which means for an annual membership fee we can get into all these places for free. It works out alot cheaper and means we can go back to places several times - we didn't have time to go round the actual house this weekend so we are going to go back another time - its one of the many advantages of the membership :-)

Kathryn! gorgeous! would it be ok to use the second one as a background reference one day? i've always searched the internet for a palace or castle and none have been as close as the second on to what i'm looking for! the last one is incredible too!

Of course you can!!! I'd be honoured - but I think I may have a better one for you to use. Let me know when your looking for one and I'll pop round with the laptop so you can have a look. Am going to the Isle of Wight in June, going to take some photos of Osbourne House so there will be quite a few more from you to choose from. It will depend whether you want a medieval, european or typically english palace/castle - I have photos of all 3!!! :-)

fantastic!! i need something that i can easily impose a figure on in the foreground so that the figure is large enough to fit in detail. i think i'd like medieval but i'm up for whatever! i've got commission coming out of my ears at the mo and i still havent finished that one of the girl on the stairs! you remember how long ago i started that one!! but i will definately remember your lovely photos
