Well, i think as I have started this forum i should be the first to divulge some little pearls of wisdom!! hehe
one piece of equipment i can never be without when drawing is q tips or ear buds as they are called in the UK. after putting down one layer of graphite i use a q tip in a circular motion to blend until the graphite is utterly smooth and all traces of pencil line is gone, i then add another layer of graphite and repeat until all values from lights to dark are blended smoothly!!

interesting use...i only used them for oil painting to smooth out brush strokes - but that sounds like a good use. i like coocktail sticks too for the thinest of paint lines and dots

really interesting technique, i might want to try next time for my future drawings with dark backgrounds, as my backgrounds are quite grainy, thanks Lianne

I´ve heard a lot about this "tehnique" and I believe it´s quite effective, BUT...I was going to an art school for a while and instructor there told me that I should never blend my work with fingers or something like that...I had to make those smooth details using just the pencil ...It takes some time, but it makes it easier later to make shadows and stuff ... Now, I do use fingers even though I know I shouldn´t (because of the oil and stuff) but it´s much, much easier to control pigment Definately, I´m going to try q-tips next time (I used it once when I was using pastels )
