I'm a total noob when it comes to pastels, but I'm going to share some of my stuff anyway. Note that I can't take credit for the composition and subject, as I am drawing from a book so I can learn a few techniques. The book is called "Soft Pastel Project Book for Beginners", bought from Amazon. Here's my first pastel work: Obviously its a larger scan... but they always look better from a distance. You can see it smaller on deviantART to get an idea how it looks further away: laurenbriggs.deviantart.com

This looks really good Lauren. I might check around for this book because I have a set of pastels that I haven't used yet! ;D

Rachel: Thank you! No, I haven't thought of a career in pastel work, but I'm flattered you mentioned it. I'm a complete beginner .... I'd have to be as good as Keith is before I considered it, I think!
Rowen: I can give you some links to the books I've bought on Amazon if you like?

Aww you flatter me Lauren, seriously though you've made a great start with the pastels, nice bold work and the colours really shine out strong which is what I always love about pastels.

I never read any books on pastels or had any training I just kind of messed around with them and seen what happened. Maybe I should take a look at some books though I may find loads of tricks and techniques I'd never thought of.

I imagine you probably already know them all from the word you have done on your own.
I find it most useful in terms of having a project to work through... the techniques themselves don't seem all that 'special'....
